Drilling hubs and drums for MT drums...
I bought a pair of MT drums and I need the drill sizes needed for the hubs and drums for the new longer studs. I should have them somewhere but it would take forever to find the info. This would be for '40 hubs on the rear. Thanks!

Do the studs have the id numbers on them? I used the Speedway drums and used 610-109 studs. They fit the drums.

Pete, the studs press into the hub and have a shoulder that fits in the drum. The holes in the drum are the right size. Inhave always used their hubs,so I do not know size to drill. Someone may know or givea call to MT.
The drums do not get swaged. John |

measure the smooth part on the stud, and drill a hole that size. the splines will "broach" they're way in. do a test hole on some steel and check the fit. use a press to install, and check them often when you start driving it.

Re: Drilling hubs and drums for MT drums...
There should be holes already. Most are already the correct tight fit. If they did need to be resized, it would likely need to be reamed to a proper fit. Drills are not an accurate way to resize and not all reamers are either. I used specific size non adjustable reamers for this type of stuff otherwise it goes in the mill. If they are outy type drum/hub set ups, a person can use the press in studs for the hub only and fit up the drums like a modern set up as was mentioned.

Talk to MT. They recommend drilling then reaming to dimension. They are modern studs and not installed like the old fashioned ones.

Re: Drilling hubs and drums for MT drums...
For the 40 rear hubs, the existing holes need to be very accurately drilled and reamed to .600"diameter. Use the Dorman 610-234 stud (Raybestos 5351B). The knurl on this stud is a bit long and could be shortened .060 if you are seeking perfection, but they seem to work fine without modification. As mentioned, you could also use the 610-109 stud - the knurl on it is the correct length but a bit larger in diameter than the 234 stud. I haven't used the 109 stud so don't know if it might require reaming the hole a bit larger than .600" to get a proper press fit.
