Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
Looks like a 'shine' runner to me. I am hoping to get down this year Vic. Had a great time there in 2011. Good car show & flea market, good food, and had lots of fun touring around with the Cigar City Flathead group.

Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
It been a few years since we were there and I had a great time there. We took our 39 2 door sedan which is all original with 20,000 miles showing. Nobody like my 39 sdn. but I do as it is. So far nobody has throw a rock at it. I just inform my wife that we are going this year. I mean it. I still remember it as if it was yesterday. That where we hook up with Vic. He said he knew his way all around there so I let him drive the 39. Guess what we got lost. I though that was funny. Lost in his back yard. The car show was great also car and trucks that I have never seen before. Never seen so manny 40 Fords in one place. Got to be the 40 Fords capital of the world. Did get a jar of Moonshine to bring home. It had cherries in the moonshine and they called it Cherry Surbrise I think. Vic got a jar also. I think he pored it in his truck so he could get home. I hope he didn't get lost going home. If you ever get a chance to go there do. You won't forget it. Vic needs to get us the phone number so we can get on the list for the tour that they have. That was lots of fun.

Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
Tom, for past events we were staying at my mom's house in Sautee, about 50 miles from Dawsonville however, that may not be an option this time. I'm going to be checking out hotels/motels in the area as it is tough to get a room near the event.

Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
Thanks, Vic, for the info - I might make the weekend a Charlotte G-guys/Moonshine weekend. We'll see - hey, I'll be retired so what the heck!

Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
Hey Ken, it'll be great to see you and Barb at this year’s Moonshine Festival. We did get lost in your '39 but we were making good time... If you Google Dawsonville, Ga. Moonshine Festival you'll find all the info re the event. For the last couple of years we (the Cigar City Flatheads) have gone on our own tour (and we haven't gotten lost yet ). I think we'll do the same this year... As it gets closer we'll figure it out.

Re: 2013 Moonshine Festival
I've got two 'haulers. One is a 62 two-door post Galaxie from Rocky Mt, Va. that came with overload springs, a front sway bar, hot FE, and of course in the requisite black. It was likely either a shine car or a cop car, we're really not sure. (For sale, if anybody needs one.)
The other is a black 39 tudor originally from North Georgia. It was supposedly a ridge runner but, to be frank, I've never seen a black 39-40 Ford coupe or tudor from the Appalachians that didn't lay claim to a shady past. Even if they weren't runners, I'll bet a Mason jar or two was sipped in all of them. Hope to get to Dawsonville one of these days. Beautiful country. Sincerely, Cuzncletus. Temporarily trapped in the swamps of South Georgia. |
