My new 1939 Sedan Delivery!
Thought you guys might enjoy seeing what we picked up today...
I heard that this 39 Sedan Delivery was listed on Craigslist about a month ago. I waited a few days before calling as I'm pretty broke... wanted to be sure I could work out buying it if it was nice. Called and looked at it on a weekday evening... 4 days after seeing the add! 4 days!!! I'm not usually able to have that much restraint... but recently buying a house has given me a different perspective... Originally the '39 was bought by a laundromat in Sunbury, PA... then sold to the Stahl family to use for their farm's produce deliveries. In 1948 with just under 62,000 miles. Mr Stahl got married and his new wife wasn't excited about living on the farm. So the Delivery was parked in the shed... where it sat till recently. The shed roof leaked and rotted off the drivers rain gutter and inturn the whole bottom of the drivers door... otherwise it has some dings dents and surface rust... but all in all its really solid, especially for PA. The only thing I could find missing was the rear door lock cylinder... Before going to look at the '39 I asked my girlfriend what she thought. Her reply "Its no Divco but its pretty nice"... you see.. she LOVES Divco milk trucks... Well... I get to the guys house to look at the '39... and wouldn't you know... theres a mini Divco sitting in his yard! Needless to say... I made an offer on both...and we agreed on a price... A few STRESSFULL weeks of working out a time to meet up to transfer the title.... and now they're home sweet home! boy this thing is little!! Sorry for the Chevy truck... had a friend haul these for me... stuffed in!

I'm totally blown away with the originality of your find, the legendary way in which you acquired it, and of course the rarity of the car itself. I've never seen a 39 Delivery, either standard or DeLuxe.
Have you made any decisions yet on the Delivery's future?

True Barn find. I like the Divco.. Are you going to keep the 39 all original or street rod.? Hopefully all original, it will be worth more. Nice.. Ken

"she LOVES Divco milk trucks..."
The sedan delivery and the Divco are not the only prizes you have.

glad you got it! the teasers you sent didnt show how perfect this thing is.. I love your ideas for modification.. most of which would go totally unnoticed.. didnt realize you needed a lower door hinge.. that will be the tough one? as for hoops quote.. I've gotta repeat it! see you at hershey!

Re: My new 1939 Sedan Delivery!
Thank you everyone... I am overly excited!
I had never seen a 39 like this before either... Always had a thought of wanting a 39 standard coupe for a daily driver...and have always loved sedan deliveries in general... so best of both worlds! My plans are to "mostly" restore it.. It will look totally stock on the outside.. probably the same Jefferson blue.. blackwall 6.00 or 6.50 tires, etc.... But some changes I have in mind are: - Some sort of a trailer hitch to tow a roadster or racecar. - Lincoln brakes - possible some sort of overdrive, (lincoln trans, mitchel or columbia) - likely build a 100 horse motor for it.. 59ab or earlier merc... possibly with 2 carbs - probably a 40 sway bar on the front and possibly a panhard bar on the rear I really would like to use this as a daily driver when the weather suites here in PA... so a few nods towards economy and a drive-ability especially incase I tow a trailer Nothing will be done to it that couldn't have been done during the time it was originally on the road... so... pre 1948 (aside from the possible mitchel) I am sure glad I got it before Hershey so I can take a list and hunt down some of the parts I need.... - rear door lock cylinder (same as side doors) - Drivers door... (same as 4dr) - rear door lower hinge - etc.... thanks for all the replies Zach

Re: My new 1939 Sedan Delivery!
Zach, Is it possible to get you to send me the pictures you have taken of the interior of the delivery? I am building a 37, and want to make sure it is the original design. [email protected]

Re: My new 1939 Sedan Delivery!
Zach, I need a picture of the rear door seal, an end shot woould help, I have no ideal what is supposed to be there. If yours is shot, I would pay for a small snipit of the end to see if we (I) could get steel rubber to make us some. No one seems to make it . thanks Pat
