Default ‘46 Tool pouch photo?

Does anyone have a photo of their 51A-17005-B tool pouch for a ‘46 Ford or Mercury? The “41-48 Ford Book” restoration guidelines only has a simple sketch and verbal description of the pouch, at 32” x 17.3”. I’m going to see if my wife can duplicate one, and it would help to have something better to go by. I found a picture of a tool kit and pouch that was posted on Fordbarn in 2016 and it doesn’t match the description in the restoration guidelines.

Also, I assume that since I would have my jack in the above pouch, I do NOT need the burlap bag for the jack??? The guidelines have me confused on that point. It states generally that jacks had a burlap bag, but in the summary table of tools by year, there’s no mention of the burlap bag.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Bruce, Both the concourse correct jack and the (especially) the correct pouch are super rare. The pouch was made of a light canvas, no doubt scraps from a dissimilar operation at Ford.
The pouch had "slots" sewn into accommodate the jack, the handle and the base. There were two opposing "drawstrings" integral of the sack that when it was rolled up, would tie the sack in a closed position.
The one I had, removed from an extremely low mileage and unaltered car was light green in color. Think of an old army tent that had faded...

Thanks Kube, your description validates what’s in the ‘41-48 restoration guidelines about the shape, and adds more detail about the material. My wife and I are shopping for pale green canvas, and have found some off-white duck cloth that I might be able to dye. I also have a couple old army surplus duffle bags that I use for storing car covers; may cut one up.

Does anybody know about the burlap bag? Does the jack go into the burlap bag, and then into the larger bag? Thanks

Bruce, no burlap bag within the canvas sack.

Didn't Lynn Stacy reproduce these? He is not really doing this anymore his wife has taken over somewhat as his health has unfortunately declined.

I know for my truck the tool pouches were sewn out of vinyl.

Sad to hear. I got a jack and tool pouch from him, as well as good information for my tool kit, 1952 F3 MH.

Bruce,
There's an off chance that the Benson Ford Research Library (the "Archives") has a Ford Engineering Drawing of the bag. Since you have the part-specific part number, you can make a request to see if they have the drawing. The lookup part is free. It would have all of the dimensional information and maybe the material specifications on the drawing. If they have the drawing, the cost is $30 for an electronic image. If you are interested in finding out, here's the email address to use: [email protected]
The Archives has one person who will answer email questions so you will get a reply.
