DL carb vs Stromberg 48
Is the difference very noticeable going from a DL Carb to a Stromberg 48 Carb on a model B 4 cylinder engine.

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
Not familiar with Detroit lubricator cfm, but a 48 would be too big.
A guide to sizing 81 carb CFM 125 97 carb. 135 92 carb. 142 48. Carb. 150 94. Carb. 155 8ba. Carb. 162 |

This is interesting; where did you get these numbers? e.g. I thought an "8BA" was exactly the same as a "94". Maybe a 2100/2110 is 162 CFM? Some of the others don't jibe with what I seem to remember, either.

Bad info on the Strombergs.

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
I wasn't convinced but thought Ok I Read these other ratings on the web so they must be right.
Here are some different numbers to confuse things. Well if Tex Smith is correct he states the CFM rating is from original manufacturers engineering test data while the variation is from teats on modern flow testing equipment. Stromberg 48 cfm. 167 to 182 Rating 175 Stromberg 81. Cfm. 130 to 142. Rating 135 Stromberg 97 Cfm. 144 to 155. Rating 150 Holley. 92 Cfm. 140 to 155. Rating 142 Holley. 94 Cfm. 150 to 158. Rating. 155 Holley 8BA. 158. To 165. Rating. 162 Holley. ECG. 184 to 190. Rating. 185 Still I suppose the can be disputed too,so I stand corrected if someone has better flow numbers.. I didn't think an ECG flowed that much. Last edited by my4dv8; 06-27-2014 at 03:22 AM. |

I think the change from the DL to a 48 would be quite noticeable. Also think the 48 would be a good size, defiantly not to big. Martin. |

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
I seem to remember that those there numbers were got from testing at 1.5" not the normal 3" used to flow test 2bbl carbs. 4bbl are flowed at 1.5".
Due to this, these numbers are really only useful for comparing with the carbs in this list, ie compare a 97 to a 94 and such. And no good for comparing with other 2bbl carbs. Martin. |

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
If you mean what you state that your question is regarding carburetion for a Model B four-cylinder engine, the starting point for comparison purposes is a Zenith updraft carburetor, not a Detroit-Lubricator V-8 single barrel downdraft carburetor.

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
Could be on to somit there David, I had assumed that he had a down draft manifold already on it with a Detroit lubricator, and he was gonna plop a Stromberg on there.

Re: DL carb vs Stromberg 48
This thread needs to be shot. Start it over with a picture of actual carb on engine or other real identification, add in some correct Stromberg stuff, rebuild!
