Robert, You mention that your car is a never touched 3w coupe. It is possible that the key that fits your rumble/trunk lid handle is the same as the locking cap. Worth a try. I've included a picture of the back of the cap and a typical locking cap cylinder and companion rumble/trunk lid cylinder.
Don Rogers ps If you can get a code off either cylinder, I can punch out a key. |

The few code #s I have found have been on the small disc holding the locking pins in. The disc itself is held on by a small slotted screw. In some cases the disc is held on by what appears to be a rivet but is really a break away screw. The code # will be visible without removing the disc. Most Ford door locks have a code# on the outside, Ignition cylders have a visible code# as well. Door & Ignition usually match. Both must be removed from the car to see the number. Trunk/Rumble handles are different than Door & Ign. Tire locks are unique as well. In all the years I have been playing with early Ford locks & keys I have NEVER been able to "pick" one. If you know a real locksmith that is willing try and pick the lock in question....go for it. Some will not invest the time to do it. Got a lock with a code# on it? I'm a killer ! I can re-pin the locks as well to make them match as in a mismatched Door & Ign. etc. I don't want to go into the Lock & Key business here but if you are really in a bind or have a question give me a call. 845 457 3546. Sorry, but just keep everyone honest I will not make a key with just a code# . Gotta have the lock in my hand. No Offense intended.

Hi Don Rogers, Yes, I have tried the key that fits ( and works ) on the trunk lid. No luck. In looking at the Mac's catalogue, it clearly states a seperate key blank for the spare locking cap. One of the keys I got with the '35 had the same shape 'head'. I tried this one many, many times, with lubricants, but it refused to turn. At this time, the mystery lies with finding the 'key code'...there has to be an answer out there, somewhere. Just a note....this key with the special shape head is a little longer than the ignition key, and seemed to fit better.....a small clue, perhaps. Thks...Robert

I just had my Roaster deck lid handle picked by a locksmith and had two keys made. The locksmith was a 19 year old girl and it took her only 35 minutes to do the job. Cost was 45 dollars and no damage to the precious handle. I recomend giving the local lock shop a call.
