Default Motoring a generator

If I motor the generator, what it the rotation looking from the front of the generator..clockwise or counterclockwise?

The generator should motor the same direction as the engine turns when running. This would be clockwise if you are standing in front of it. If the generator motors backwards, the ground wire from the field coils is connected backwards and the generator won't charge.

Purdy, I've read about having to polarize the field of the genny. I never had to do it as mine worked fine. Could it be poarized in reverse and it motor CCW?

Actually it wouldn't matter if it was polarized positive or negative it would still motor clockwise unless the ground was reversed on the field coils. There is some generator internal wiring diagrams in Brattons catalog on page 66 of the 2011 catalog . Also look at the left at the bottom of the page. Legend hook up discription, good luck. I've found generator cores that were grounded internally backwards that motored backwards. It took a while to figure out what was causeing it.
