Just bought one at Sam's club. Tractor supply is another source.

Google "reproduction Ford batteries" and two suppliers pop up near the top of the list.

I have never had good luck with those repro Ford Script lead acid 6V batteries. It cost me a lot of money to find out they were basically junk. The only thing I have left are the script cases which could be gutted out for using an Optima type battery. Just saying.....but it's your choice and your money

They have stopped making the plates for some of the odd sized batteries. Such a low demand for them it's not worth the effort. We are going thru the same thing for a 36. The fake batteries are just way to much money for what they are. This is a very, very nice car (36 roadster) but not a show car. We are going to have to use the Optima but not going the route of the fake case covering it, we have some other plans.

Re Antique Auto Battery, contacted them today about a 2LF for 3the 36, no go.

Here is what I am doing for a battery. I bought an Optima from Summit Racing, free shipping for orders over 100 bucks:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ult-9010-044

Then ordered a non-Ford Script tar top battery box from this guy for 102 bucks plus shipping:

http://quailservices.com/index.html
(scroll down the page to see a photo of the case)

Should have the case by the end of the week. I can live without the Ford script.

Would be nice if Quail Services would show their redesigned 2LD-ll case, including the Ford Script details, that has been redesigned to fit the newer, taller, Optima's. If the final assembled case with newer, taller, Optima installed measures 8" total, from base of case to tops of terminals, that would fit a stock '35-'36 Ford battery box with no modifications necessary.

He doesn't offer a Ford scripted battery. Plain Jane only. He has some aftermarket battery decals. I will post some photos, etc. when I get it in the car. I don't think it will be able to use the original battery hold down bracket so thinking about getting another and modifying it to fit maybe.

It sounds like the Optima with the fake case is the way to go, but I am a little concerned about things not fitting right.

Has anyone actually purchased one of the optimas with the fake case and installed it into a 1939 Ford Deluxe? If so, where did you purchase it from?

I'm 73, and my second Optima is only two years old (the first one lasted 12 years), so I don't think I'll have to worry about another one. If I ever did need another, this is what i'd do : Buy a new proper sized 6 volt battery from Fleet Farm for half the price of the fake case, use it until it died, then gut it and use the case for another Optima. In my opinion what these guys are getting for these cases is obscene. (The fake tops are available for a more reasonable price than the cases.)

I have bought one of the repo ford script batteries. The lead cell connector bars are very poorly made and look like excrement. If you have an old genuine
Ford battery, cut these off of the old battery and use them.

Why use an expensive ford script battery in a 35-36 Ford under the floorboard original mount where it can't be seen? An Optima will fit on its side under the floorboard unseen in the original mount where Henry ment it.

Make sure this is proper for your year

The Lead acid batteries are easier to charge if you don't use your antique car often.
The optima batteries are very hard to recharge if you let them die. In fact, if they get beyond a certain low charge, and are left that way for a length of time they can never be recharged and have to be thrown away, while most leads acid batteries can be recharged.
