The very early 1928 Roadster Serial Number A189 just sold for 49,500.00 which includes the 10% buyer premium at the RM Auction in Hershey.

Wow. Thanks I missed that one. So, roughly $45K before bidder's penalty. Probably about what it's worth.

Wow, $5000 buyers premium. I've bought whole cars for less than that. Congrats to the new owner on an important car. I hope he's a Ford barner.

I hope it is cared for and displayed as well as documented on the accurate early features it possesses.

With my luck, I'd buy something like that and a week later A188 would show up, and I'd lose 90% on it

I am happy for young Steve and David Ciccalone, they were left with a very difficult job after their father , a good friend to a lot of us, passed away.

We saw a 1929 coupe sell for $50.000 a few years back and it wasn't a Barret Jackson auction. I forget the ladys name that sold it. I remember when it was offered most said it would never happen but it did. I couldn't have paid that much but I am surprized that A189 didn't bring more.

I thought it would bring more too. It's a significant car but neither a well preserved original nor properly restored-and that may have affected the percieved value.. It would be great if the new owner properly restored this significant car into a MARC/MAFCA Fine Point car. While I realize that would take a lot of money and effort, I can't think of another Model A that would be more worthy.

GZ, I agree with most of what you say, except for 'I can't think of another Model A that would be more worthy'.
Last year we saw A616 win a Henry Award at Lexington. This car originally belonged to Henry Ford's illegitimate son, was driven across the United States at a break neck speed to show the New Ford's speed and durability and there is a photo of Henry Ford sitting in it. Don Biven's A616 is a beautifully restored car and has provenance that no other Model A has. |

looking at the auction results page in the other link some of the cars descriptions say from the estate of ****** which tends to drive up the price more. the A189 did not

Dean- Now that I read my comment, I think my phrasing was a little strong. I didn't mean to exclude any other cars that get restored for Fine Point, because they are all great . I just wanted to emphasize that this car certainly deserves it too.

I looked over the A189 Roadster and did not see it hitting over $40,000.00 That's me and with that said someone offered the Son $60,000 for the car back in Aug. in which the Son turned it down...[ he was asking $100,000.00 w/ parts to correct the car] and a wasted trip on someones time... ! That person did not want the car for himself but to sent it to the Model "A" Museum. He also knew the A189 was not worth over $40,000.00 !

I had a partner in the Antique Business who told me "Something is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay you for it, or exactly what you are willing to pay someone else for it!"

Peters, what I predicted in the last thread about this car..... Fellas, we are in a soft market, that accts for much.... if this were 2007-then yes, it could have been considerably higher. but it's not.... |
