Question: Is the lower seat springs for an 82-b, '30 Model A Ford ccpu the same as a Model A coupe for that year? Anything else besides just a coupe?
I have always thought the pickup I have has had a replacement done on the lower seat springs because it sticks out so far from the seat riser. I hope to make it to Chickasha this month and I'll likely be looking for a replacement to have reupholstered and put to use in my pickup. This big overhang actually makes it more difficult for me to pull my left leg into the cab when getting in and getting seated to drive. The distance between the seat front and that pullar is really small. Also, there are supposedly two wire loops which hold the front seat bottom in the seat riser to keep it from moving. My lower seat springs don't seem to have these loops, so I am hoping to find a good replacement. 2nd question: Anyone know the average asking price for a front seat bottom set of springs? I don't need the back set. Thanks for any info. I appreciate it. You can see how far the overhang is in the attached photos. |

Pretty sure that spring only fits the 30-early31 82B.

The seat in my 82b hardly hangs over the seat riser .
Your's looks about 3-4" too deep to me. John Cochran |

Call Tom Jordan at Snyders and explain what you have to him.

The lower seat of mine is pushed under the back seat and as far back as I can get it. Just a board in the middle of the seat riser for support. That appx. 4" overhang just seems incorrect to me, but I don't know of any way to eliminate it with the current seat. That is what makes me believe it is not original.
I know that Snyder's sells seat springs, but that is not really my question. I am wanting to know if the coupe or any other model of the same year will fit properly or not? Last edited by coupe1942; 10-06-2016 at 06:21 PM. |

Thanks for the info.
Just to be certain from Charlie's post, I went out to the garage and removed both the top and bottom seat springs and then tried to push the bottom back as far as I could. No real difference and the overhang is still there. In inspecting the underside of the bottom seat springs, I just od not find any indication of any loops there to hold the seat into those angled slots at the seat pan. Charlie, if you happen to have a photo of those loop thingies to your seat bottom, please post. Someone posted a photo of such before, but I could never make out just what they looked like when I copied that photo. It is possible that they may be covered up with excess upholstery on mine, but I don't think so. Snydedr's does not really show a photo of this particular seat to see anything there at their site. |

Again.. Call Tom and ask him what the front to back dimension should be for the correct spring for your 82B.
As was said, they make them. Just found some size information I got from Tom for my 1930 CCPU. Bottom: 41" wide in the back 39 3/4" in the front 18 3/4" deep 7" radii on the front corners 2 1/2" radius on the back corners. Back Rest: 46 3/4" in the back 45 1/4" in the front 16 3/4" deep 2 /2" radius on all four corners.

The things that go in the loops on the riser fold down. See if you have something that will do that. It may be covered by the upholstery.

I'll check this once again in the morning to be sure. Haven't found them yet, but that does not mean that they are not there and simply covered up in the front section of the seat.

I bought a replacement lower seat spring a few years ago, and it came with the loops in them and the overhang is minimal. It seems to be a very good reproduction of the original. Can't remember where I got it from, but can search my records if you need it. Also can take pictures of the loops if you need them, but I think you definitely need a new spring that will fit properly.

Yes, thanks so much for posting the photos as they help considerably. Mine has to be a seat from some other vehicle, I suspect. There are no hidden loops on it anywhere that I have found. Those photos explain a lot.

If I had to do it over again, I'd cut back the front of the platform & spring, so I could get my danged feet in.

Yeah, but if Larry's measurements are correct, then 18 3/4" deep is a pretty good size for an older person's fanny. When I was younger my aft end was probably smaller and could accommodate a shorter or more narrow depth seat. Guess that explains my pants size growing so much that I have to have and expandable waist these days and needing more cushie for my tushie. If I trimmed it down it would probably feel like one of those cab seats for extra passengers. :-)

I had a friend who was 6' 12" tall! He moved his Chevelles' seat, clean back to the rear seat!
