Default 1928 Sedan Cowl Welting?

I am trying to figire out exactly where welting and or anti sqeak lining is supposed to be installed. I am rebuilding my entire cowl including new subrail extensions, cowl sides and firewall, Using the original fuel tank. Does anyone have a diagram or picture that shows this?

The cowl and gas tank welting in installed between the cowl and A pillar and goes up over the top of the gas tank between the gas tank and the filler piece above the gas tank and down the other side to the bottom of the cowl. On piece is used to do the whole thing. There is no welting between the top of the cowl and the bottom of the gas tank. You can see the welting in the picture. Pretty much all model A built by Ford had the cowl/gas tank welting installed the same way.

Mine is a tudor. Thank you for the picture and explanation. Is there anything that should be placed under the tank? I see in the vendors catalog lists a gas tank anti squeak welting?

Yes, buy that from the dealers, or at least use friction tape.

When I installed the gas tank in the car in the picture above, I used contact cement to glue old fashioned friction tape to the top flange of the cowl panel. I punched holes for the 5 bolts/clamps that hold the gas tank to the cowl. I figured this would minimize or eleimate any squeaks between the metal parts. In fact, I did this in many places as I reassembled the car, which I had totally dismantled to repair the numerous rust holes. From what I have seen the anti-squeak that vendors sell it too thick and costs a lot more than friction tape. Friction tape will only stick to itself, so that is why I glued with contact cement. The welting serves to eliminate any squeaking where it is applied.
