Hi Guys.
This is the brass fitting from the master cylinder - anyone know the proper brake pipe union size that goes into it? I am thinking 7/16 UNF 24 TPI - but I vaguely remember someone telling me that MC fittings were different ie 20 TPI so as not to plumb them the wrong way round thanks Bob Last edited by BobbyG; 02-12-2013 at 05:01 AM. The 40 style master cylinder has a 1/2" UNF thread. I always use the bolt, washers and V shaped fitting from Macs. (Other suppliers are available). I THINK (not sure) the fitting shown is intended for the drivers side front brake hose, in which case it is used with a 7/16 - 24 special bolt to fit the fine hose threads.

Cheers Mart.
You had me worried for a minute there as I was quite sure that the union shown was intended for use on the back of the MC - Macs ( Other suppliers are available !) show this as part # 2076 and a very similiar probably identical piece as a T piece on ref # 2075. So to clarify then to plumb my new 1/4 brake lines I need 7/16 - 24 TPI unions - when you say 'special' what do you mean ? Any ideas where I would get a couple ? Got more leaks than a Welsh Harvest festival !! Bob Last edited by BobbyG; 02-12-2013 at 05:02 AM. Reason: Can't smell ! |

Hi Bob, I just realised you are UK based.
The ford brakes use weatherhead fittings. The 1/4" pipe uses what they call 1/4" unions which have a 7/16"-24 thread on them. That's what the hoses have in the female end. The master cylinder has a 1/2"-20 thread on it and uses the special bolt with a thread for the brake light switch in the head. I think there is a fitting like that that does go on the master cylinder, but I don't know the number. I use the V shaped one because it can't be the wrong one, if you get my drift. I plumb my cars as close to the 40 ford setup as I can, with minor rerouting, but all the hardware is the same as a 40. I get my stuff from Macs, but there may be places in the UK that have them. The parts are pretty well USA exclusive parts, you would do well to find anything useable off the shelf here in the UK except for a specialist early ford supplier. By special I meant the bolt is made specifically for brake applications and the 7/16 - 24 thread is not a standard form. just to complete the picture, the male ends of the front hoses are 7-16-20 (UNF) as are the female holes in the front cylinders (with a washer face seal) the rear cylinders are 7/16-24 for a hard line weatherhead 1/4" union. Miles at Jackhammer should be able to supply the parts, but there may be others too, I'm not sure, I tend to get my stuff from the USA when I can. Mart. |

Cheers Henry - not had it long and she is wearing me down !
Once I get the brakes working she is ready to drive and I can begin to 'love' her. I also have an old Chevy 55 and that one is misbehaving also -- stupid hobby ! |
