I am a Newbie to the site but not to the hobby ! I may be out of place and I am sure I will be told so, but what about this ?
Why doesn't the site owner ( Ryan I guess ) post a suggested minimal yearly fee / dues ( maybe $ 10 to $ 15 dollars ) and a site address. Those that wished to donate to help defray his costs could send in the fee and those that did not wish to could ignore it. Maybe in return there could be a Fordbarn wall certificate or keychain mailed to registered members. No obligation on anyone's part but a way of showing appreciation for the courtesy extended to the users of Fordbarn. In these days of economic hardship all freebies must come to an end so lets take proactive measures to protect the site ! |

I believe the Barn and the hobby are out to help people. Not always does everyone need to make a buck. Advertisers, parts vendors and such assist in payments of advertising to do that. I would not ask Ryan not expect to know how he runs his business, but i do think if you start charging on sites like this for hobbys you will see many people leave. There is a wealth of knowledge here that is "SHARED" by many and designed to stay that way. JMHO as a business owner myself.

I am also a business owner myself so I have to think outside the box ! I did in the original post say it was a voluntary dues payment and not compulsory ! Nobody gets hurt and everyone benefits ! Al

Ryan's other site, The Jalopy Journal (aka: The HAMB) has the option of becoming an Alliance Member for a mere 50.00.You get a really cool aluminum plaque with your user name inscribed (I have the radiator of my 1928 roadster covered in them now). I am an alliance member of the HAMB and would gladly become one on Ford Barn if it were available. Ryan does a great job in providing this site and I would gladly contribute to its support, as I would hope many other people would too.

You can still SHARE and pay dues, especially when they are voluntary. To suggest you can no longer SHARE because you pay is ludicrous !!
I don't know why anyone would object. If you don't agree you say no and itt is over. If you do agree you pay the stipend and it is over. What has changed ? |

I for one will not be giving out any information if I have to pay to help some one. Why would any one want to pay to help.

I don't know why Luckyal even brought up volunteering to pay a fee for this site. It seems like everything is going along just fine just as it is. The site is great to get help and provide help to model A's that need it or can provide it. I think if Ryan wanted to impose a fee, then he should bring it up. Just my opinion.

Another forum I belong to has an annual "fund drive." The owner recommends $12 annually to cover overheads. Membership is perhaps 1000. But the fee/contribution is strictly voluntary.
He does have a Paypal Donate button on the header. But other than the annual reminder, no advertisements or anything. And he has shown his "target" and where the fundraising stands relative to that - done with the classic "thermometer" indicator. I sent him his $12 now a couple of years. It seemed the least I could do. Joe K

Well it WAS a nice day....
I've always considered this site a "brotherhood"ofr "fatherly advice" site. Not so sure I would belong to a 'pay' site (you guys are not that good looking / ![]() Can't we just enjoy the hobby without always reaching for your wallet? Fordbarn is one of the few things left that you don't have to pay a membership or fee or a TAX |

Still is a nice day today ! Because someone suggests something you don't agree with does not change the day.
No MsMaron I don't see where this is going. I think it has tremendous merit !I have not seen one substantail reason not to pay when it is voluntary. If it was compulsory of course there would be resistance ! |

If Ryan needs money to support this site, then like mentioned, it would seem like he is the one that should suggest it. If he does need to have support for expenses, then it would seem reasonable for members of this site to contribute. Whether it continues to be free or a contribution is needed, it is important to continue this site for members of this hobby. Thus free or a small fee, Ryan do what you want or need to do.

Yes Tom we could both make a donation to the museum and Fordbarn. And as long as we were not told we had to do it why would anyone complain. I am sure with your 8000 plus posts you would agree that a small donation to Fordbarn is a worthwhile investment to keep your source of entertasinment going ! ....and it is still a nice day !

If there was a FordBarn Alliance membership like the H.A.M.B. I'd pony up.
