Question Beat the "Odd's"

Hi Guy's

Sitting here on "Another Medical" leave...looking at my coupe about 90% done... Just thinking in the almost 83 year's it's been around how it beat the Odd's...

I'am sure the original owner is long gone by now,,But I'am sure they'ed be shocked the coupe is still around... Accident's, Natural disaster's,,WW-2 scrap drives,,,,Being a "old car" in the 50's early 60' that nobody wanted...still this dumb kid(me) bought it at the old Ford Obsolete in 69..

So I had the car for going on 44 year's...and it been off the road since 77...When I finally get it done , it will be like a new car to me...But I will tell you....it's alot harder working on the car now Vs. as a young kid year's ago & Wow how the Traffic has changed

I was also thinking it will get to the point when the old A won't fit in on the road anymore..You know the car's that will drive themself's ?? Maybe they will have a lane for the old stuff ?

I just had my Newer car stolened...I was lucky, got it back undamaged..A buddy said if it was the A these young guy wouldn't know how to drive it, let along start it ..He might be right...

Just thinking

Greg, I'm with ya. Especially traffic. People drive way faster than they used to, and there are many more cars on the roads, even the so-called back roads. I've been driving a Model A for almost 52 years and I worry that traffic is going to be the factor that finally causes me to stop. But until that time, "Away we go!"

The main reason I have overdrive & HC heads on both my A,s is because I feel it is much safer to drive at 60 on busy roads than toodle along at 45 and risk getting rear ended. When on quiet roads,I just take it out of OD & putt along at 40 or so.

I hope you have brakes that will stop you at those speeds!

I think it will be a while before I have to worry about that here. I can go on a 4 hour sunday afternoon drive along miles and miles of country roads, stop for a Dairy Queen, stop at a couple garage sales that look like they have some real "garage stuff" and get home without being passed more than a couple times, and not backing up traffic a single time. I usually drive about 45mph, and I'll maybe even pass an old farmer or two, out in his shiny new pickup doing 40mph looking at the crops. When I left home after college in 1987, I went straight to Chicago, then St Paul. Ended up back here, 1/2 mile from the home place. A traffic jam here is when I have to wait for 3 cars to pass before I cross Hwy 71. Actually that really is true, I don't think I've ever had to wait for more than 4 or 5 EVER. Good Model A ing country. If you run out of gas or have a flat on the A, people are delighted to stop and help. Love it here, could do with a little warmer weather though... very cold this morning and my water froze up.

Hey your A (and my B) are faster and safer than all those bicyclists we have all over our roads these days.
