hey guys, well shit, my EAB is blowing water out the passenger side exhaust pipe, has duels, and believe it or not, its blowing water out the draft tube and oil fill pipe.
first I thought it was a blown head gasket, so I pulled the head, every thing looks great, so I put a new head gasket on it, changed the oil and it still does the same thing. the block has two sleeves in it, so Im thinking when they bored it for the sleeves they hurt it somewhere. for the life of me I cant figure how its blowing water out the exhaust and up under the manifold, coming out the draft tube and oil fill tube. I don't have a block pressure tester, but Im goanna get or make one, Iv got another block laying around, so I guess Ill get busy with that one, goanna pressure test and magnaflux this one first ![]() any thoughts on how the water is getting in ? thanks |

Elwood, before you pull the engine, remove both exh. manifolds from the block. Run it and see if you see any signs of water coming out of any exh port. If you do maybe it will give you and idea whitch cyl, is giveing the problem. Walt

jwl, yes I ground the ports, but iv done a bunch of blocks, and I fingered this thing to death as I did it, there's no leaks there, plus, if it was leaking only into the exhaust port, how is it getting under the manifold ?
thanks for the reply Walt, iv got duels on it, and its leaking out of the passenger side exhaust only, for kicks, ill pull the manifold before I pull the engine and look. Im goanna start taking my other block apart tonight after work. |

how about pulling the plugs on the pass side, and starting it up it will run on one side. I did that on a Flathead to find what hole was getting water in it. that motor looked like a milkshake was poured into it. maybe you have a warped head good luck, Brendan

To answer your question---the valve guide and valve stem extend into the valley. It is possible there is more than one problem.
I would caution you to be VERY careful. Trying to start an engine with a cylinder full of water can ruin your winter. |

Could you remove the intake manifold, then pressurize the radiator with a pump up tool that fits on the radiator filler, like radiator shops use? maybe you could see where the water is leaking into the valley.
Just a thought |

I've seen some that started leaking small amounts into the cylinder but rapidly grew to large amounts when the piston couldn't compress the water in the cylinder. Leaks in the center exhaust ports can be cracks through into the water jackets in there. Cracks radiating from the center head bolt holes can grow clear down into the ports given time, overheating, or a combination.
The water coming out the oil filler sort of indicates a crack inside the valley area shooting around in there. I haven't seen too many in there but it can happen from freezing. The kind of leakage mentioned indicates more than one source or it sure seems to anyway. I've seen block cracks that were definitely large enough to spot with the naked eye after freeze up. Pan rails and the back of the block are more common but anything is possible. |
