Default 53 Merc 15" Wheels

Need some help with this one.
Does anyone know the wheel lug pattern measurements for a 53 Merc 15" rim?
A friend suggested that they are 5 by 4.5".
Tried the ref charts on line but they don't go that far back.
Thanks,
Bob

Yep, 99% sure they are 4 1/2. 1948 was the last car that had 5 1/2 bolt pattern but the trucks still had 5 1/2

I do believe the '53 merc was 4.5, BUT the 49-51 Mercs are 5 on 5.5 and have a Merc only wheel as the center where the hubcap snaps on was wider.

1953 Mercury car has a 5 lug, 4.5" bolt circle, and take a 10 1/8" hubcap..

1949 to 1951 Mercury cars have the 5.5" bolt circle, and as 1oldtimer states,
they take the larger 11" hubcap.

The mid century Mercs (1949 thru 51) were based on the Lincoln car planform since the baby Lincolns shared many parts. The 1952 Mercury planform switched over to the Ford suspension and drive train planform which included the wheels, drums, and hubs plus many other Ford car suspension parts.
