1949-51 mercury dip stick info

Just changed the oil in my 8BA that has a 50 Merc rear sump oil pan and 50 Merc dipstick.
You can see small letter "M" the stamped on it from the factory.
Engine oil pan holds 5 quarts without the filter and 6 quarts with the filter as shown by markings on dip stick.

As you know the Ford and Merc blocks are the same except for the larger bore of the Merc.
My rear sump oil pan is from a complete stock 1950 Merc engine that I bought in 1967. It has a baffle inside. The Merc engine block was replaced with a stock 1953 Ford engine block in 1971 and I continued to use the Merc oil pan and dip stick to the present day.

The 1949-51 Lincoln Mercury Overhaul Manual Vol. 1 states as
follows on page 34:
Engine oil: Dry (including filter)................. 6 qts.
Refill: .................................................. .......... 5 qts.

Hope this clarifies some dip stick questions.

Do you Know the length of the dip stick tube, as there are different lengths. Just the length excluding the thread. Mine measures aprox 7 5/8". (8RT) Is your tube close to 9"?
A bit difficult to measure while still in the car. I did mine by putting a zip tie on a 12" steel ruler.

REPLY: I just measured the length of the dip stick tube from the top edge of the mounting flange where it screws into the oil pan to the top of the dip stick tube and found the
measurement to be 9 3/4 in.

I measured the length several times using a piece of 1/8 in. dia solder and also using a wire tie wrap. Each time the measurement was the same 9 3/4 in. I could feel the top of the oil pan mounting flange with my fingers as I held the solder and tie wrap along the length of the tube with my fingers.

I performed the same measurement again using a hand held hack saw blade and the measurement was still 9 3/4 in.

There is a very tiny curve in the dip stick tube where it fits between the FENTON headers and the engine block. I don't think that tiny curve makes much of a length difference.
