Default the opposite of complaining about shipping costs

I got my order from Dennis Carpenter today. It arrived in an 8 foot long tube I'm sure cost oversize to ship because of the length. But I was charged only $9.95 for shipping. Thanks. The order came very quickly as well.

Carpenter has always been good about their shipping charges as well as their service.
I get a laugh out of "the other guy" that says he ships at cost but tacks on $2 "delivery guaranty" to each and every order. Too bad FedEx and UPS (his shippers) have insurance included for the first $100 value.
Do the math: Lets' say a mere 100 packages a day x five days per week x 50 weeks. I am being very generous here... that comes out to $50,000 a year just for tacking on that $2. Not a bad rip if you can get away with it as he does. 200 packages a day is a cool $100k a year.

Obviously, none of us have a clue as to who "the other guy" might be that you refer to, but the math is interesting, to say the least. Could that "delivery guarant[y]" possibly be a guarantEE that delivery WILL happen WITHOUT any back-orders, or maybe a guarantee that ALL customers will ALWAYS be COMPLETELY satisfied with what is "delivered"? WHEW! Just glad to hear that Carpenter does so well WITHOUT extra "guaranty" charges, kinda' just like what GREAT customer service has always meant to...customers. DD

Isn't Mac's the one who adds $2 for delivery guarantee?

Mac's may add it, I really don't know. I'll allow a hint at who I was referring to: Back Order ---

Sent a distributor to Bubba's yesterday. Box size is 8x16x16. Weight 4.5 lbs.
Fedex ground was $17.00. Four days from northern California to Indiana. Three
days? $68. Next day $200!!

This thread started out lauding Denis Carpenter for fast delivery service at a reasonable rate. However, by the third post, it became more Bob Drake bashing... I've done business with Carpenter, Drake, Mac's, Joblot and a host of others for many years. If I feel that one supplier is overcharging me on shipping, I simply go to another supplier. This is the land of free enterprise, if you don't like someone’s business practices, use someone else. It’s that simple.

55Dude - yes I thought about the USPS, they were closed on Monday, so Fedex ground was the choice, and the Fedex airport center is close by.
