The ring and pinion in my 29 was in poor condition so I fixed it with the high speed unit. I realize my speedometer is off by about 6 mph in the 40-45 mph range as I had a friend follow me home from the repair shop. I understand that a new gear can be put into the speedo drive in the fitting where the cable fastens. Wondering how much of a job that is so am enlisting the experience out there for some comments. Thanks, Bill

Maybe check with Model A vendors who have different speedometer gear items to change where attached to drive shaft's torque tube below to compensate for different differential gear ratios -- fairly recent new device for 3:27 gear ratio for example -- methods & parts change now & then.

My friend bought a 3.27 ring and pinion from Bert's and bought the adaptor at the same time. You simply unscrew the cable at the driveshaft and screw the adaptor in between the driveshaft and speedomoeter cable. Takes a couple minutes.

Just installed same for a new 3:27 ratio from Bert's -- 2 hex screws, a small wrench, & a light only if installed at night. |
