Default '40 Business Coupe Trunk

I am looking for photos (or sketches) of a trunk, specifically the spare tire area in a business coupe. I have a 5-Window that I'm turning into a Business Coupe, so I want to know how to arrange the spare tire mount properly in the BC. Can anyone help with some photos & dimensions?

As most of you know, the 5WC has the bottom of the vertical spare tire mount attached to the floor nearer the passenger compartment, while the BC (I think) has the vertical spare tire mount angled the other way, with the bottom closer to the rear of the car.

19Fordy tried to help me last month, but it turns out he has a 5-Window Coupe. He did a great job and spent a lot of time emptying his trunk and taking lots of photos with a measuring tape for me, but he has exactly what I have, so I'm still looking for some data on this.

I can't find anything after some rather exhaustive research online.

Bob, Below are 3 pix of drawings taken from the book shown. In the drawings below it appears that the spare tire of the 1940 DeLuxe 5-window coupe Model 01A-77B is angled back more towards the rear of the car than the spare tire shown in the Business Coupe Mode01A-67B. In these drawings I am assuming that the spare tire angle is the same as the brace" it is secured to. Placing a protractor on the drawings I get that the angle between the spare tire and the trunk floor in Model 01A-67B is 75 degrees. The same angle when placing a protractor on the book drawing on Model 01A-77B is 67 degrees. In the photo I sent you last month, that same angle between the brace and the floor on my car (model 01A-77B) was 30 degrees. That's pretty close to the book measurement of 67 degrees. I am assuming that the drawings shown came from the Ford Museum. I know this is not the most accurate way to obtain these measurements, but I bet they are pretty darn close. ( After looking at the way the "vertical" brace is welded in my trunk at the bottom and the top it seems that there is some "give and take" in locating the brace exactly at one specific angle. The guys on the assembly line probably just had to get the brace in there so it would fit and be" close enough". I doubt if a few degrees one way or another was critical on a moving assembly line.) If there was a problem, a whack with a hammer solved it. I hope someone else can provide you photos of model 01A-67B.

19Fordy, those schematics help tremendously. There isn't much difference at all in the angle of the spare! I guess the floor pans are the primary differences between the two. So, just to be clear, the photos you sent of your car represent a business coupe? I was so anticipating the spare angled the other way that I had assumed I had not been clear, but I just wasn't paying attention! Thanks so much.

Yes Bob, my car is a 1940 Ford DeLuxe 5 window coupe, Model 01A-77B. It does NOT have the little jump seats. IT DOES have a package tray between the back seat and the back of the front seat flips up for even more storage. The Model 01A-76B has the jump seats as shown in the drawings above. They are represented by the small rectangles shown in the 01A-76B pictorial. I hope someone can send you photos of their 01A-76B trunk interior. It doesn't seem logivcal to have the spare angles the other way as it would reduce trunk space and possibly protrude into the area behind the front seats and jump seats reducing space for the passenger.

I've got a '40 standard, business coupe, with the jump seats. I believe my spare is angled as 19Fordy's. I'm traveling right now, but if you'd like, I can provide photos and measurements later in the week.

I appreciate it, Joe. 19Fordy sent me a boatload of pics last week of his, but I was ignorant and thought his was a 5W Coupe, but turns out it is a BC, so I should be good to go. Thanks, though!

Ha! Well, I'm certainly doing a fine job of confusing myself and others. Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll take Joe AZ's offer up to get me some dimensions and let's compare and see how different they are. Thanks, 19Fordy.
