Default Yblock in a 52 ford f1

I bought a 52 ford F1 that has a stuck flathead and was wondering if a yblock I have laying around will fit the existing 3speed, clutch etc?
Thanks in advance.

Years ago I put a 272 Y block into my '49 F1 when the flattie expired. My 11 inch pressure plate and clutch fitted straight onto the 272 flywheel. You do need a different bell-housing to mate the engine and gearbox - here in NZ Berry and Chung used to make them. Had to take out the flattie front chassis engine mounts to get the 272 to fit (I think the fuel pump and generator were in the way) and fabricate others to fit the 272 to the chassis - other fiddling around I remember was with the exhausts and getting the correct sump to clear the axle- the car sump is fine until you hit a decent bump and then the axle rearranges it.
When the 272 expired I put a flattie back in. My current 8BA is stock except +60 with 4 inch crank (265 cu in) and, from what I remember, grunts as well as the 272 - it may be more practical and worth more in the long run to put your energy into doing up the flattie. Whatever you do it will be lots of fun - good luck!

Yeah I sounds like a lot of work and searching, maybe redoing the flatty is the wiser choice.
