Default VR questions

I am about to install the VR that goes on top of the gen and have two questions:

1) The instructions say NOT to polarize the gen.? I keep hearing that you need to 'flash' the gen.

2) I adjusted the third brush with my finger, is that tight enough? And I assume that when you adjust the third brush the engine must be running.

Thanks,

Mike

The engine does not have to be running to adjust the third brush. You can polarize the generator by touching the battery voltage to the generator output post without the VR installed. If you've been using the generator and haven't taken it apart, then it shouldn't need to be polarized anyway.

After working on the generator or long storage is usually when they need to be polarized, or if the battery was installed backwards.

Hi Tom,

Thanks, I understand now, but I rebuilt it, new brushes, coils etc. so I will have to polarize it.
