![]() ![]() It was very easy to install. Remove torque tube and driveshaft, replace with Mitchell. Pin that holds on driveshaft is peened on both ends. Wait was 16 weeks. Last edited by mrtexas; 06-13-2012 at 02:44 PM. |

Didn't it require shorting the drive shaft and torque tube? Thanks Dave/Green Bay

That sure is a neat installation. Is that an electric fuel pump on the left hand frame rail? Wonder about the big adjustable wrench, SAE or metric?

Mitchell supplies a new driveshaft and torque tube. Yes, electric fuel pump.

Have you checked to see that your floor clears the Mitchell?

That looks great. PLEASE take plenty of photos and keep written notes on the rest of the installation so that we can all see how it fits inside the car. Did you install 9 in. brakes and backing plates on the rear? I see an aluminum spacer and am wondering...HOT ROD WORKS?

The OD fits with plenty of room but I think the station wagon has a floor like no other one. I put MT products bendix brakes on the rear. I first had them on my Model A which requires spacers. v8 does not require spacers but I didn't want to replace the lug bolts. It's hard to get a good shot of how the OD fits but here is a try:
![]() I have plenty of room. The rear seats sit on a rise of about 6 inches. The OD extends 19 inches from the front of the rear end. I am having to extend the shift lever by 2 inches and mount it upside down. The light is shining thru the floorboard I am having to replace. The square holes are for mounting the second row of seats. |

Does anyone have breakdown pics of the Mitchell? Would like to see how all that works in a rectangle box and how it does or does not put a twisting motion on the torque tube.

Hi Jim, I haven't ever herd of any problems with the Mitchell OD. I see what you are saying but haven't seen the internals so don't know. If you call Sue Mitchell she is a very accommodating person and will surely answer your questions or concerns.

I installed a Mitchell in the pickup and was very happy with it. Gas millage seemed alot better, I did get the cable control mounted under dash and kept the small floor alone. I was wondering Is there a somekinda formula for deciding on the 25% or 34% The motor will start heating up if I lug it down, But on the flat roads hang on! Dave
