Question Fuel Pressure for 1940 V-8 85 HP

Installed a electric 6-volt fuel pump in my '40 V-8. What is correct pressure setting when using a fuel pressure regulator ? Some are telling me 2 1/2 and others tell me 6. Thanks in advance.

if you have a low pressure pump, you may not need a regulator. i have a regulator set at 2 1/2#. i installed it because the 97 was burping and leaking.

If you are running a Holley 94 keep the pressure under 4PSI. Stock pumps put out 2 1/2 to 3.

use a good pressure gauge so you know the setting is correct....2 1/2 to 3 psi should work fine and save your carb and engine...Mike

Mike I'm not into electric fuel pmps but 3.25 to 3.5 on a mechanical pump useing this new gas is just about perfect. In hot weather the warmer this gas gets the lower the fuel pressure drops. G.M.

Mike 2.5 to 3.0 was good up to the time this new gas came along. It still works at that pressure until it gets close to 85 outside. G.M.

G.M., I've been reading your posts about your tests with new gasoline, etc....so it's always good to realize that things are changing and my thinking needed to be changed about the pressure needed with the old carbs because of the new gasoline...will try to remember it this time......thanks.....Mike

Mike you need to get a laser pointed thermometer ($25 to $30) to realize the problems with this gas and know if you are close to problems. This tool is also nessesary to know exactly what is going on with the cooling system. This takes the guess work out of the search pin pointing the problem area. G.M.

Mike how do you know it's 3 lbs?? Do you have a gauge or going by the dial. You need a gauge to know what the pressure realy is. G.M.
