Default follow up to 16" tire question

I have a 31 S/W with 16" wheels and 215/70 cooper tires and when you have two grown ups in the back seat and go around a corner the tires rub on the inside of the wheel well .Any body have a fix for this.

Thanks

Pat

Duffy,
If your running the same pressure on all 4, you need to go up in the rear. Extra weight in the S/W and also radials flex in the sidewall. It'll make the ride a tad rougher but should mitigate the rubbing. Do you have good shocks?

Pat, I'm sure you don't want to hear the smart aleck answer regarding put the correct size tire back on, so lets go a different way. How bad is the rub? Is it something you can make a wheel spacer for to correct the rub? Can you take the existing wheel and change the center section alignment to create a different offset spacing? Outside of that, AND while I am not proponent of this, it may be that you must do some sheetmetal surgery to the offending area(s).

I have air shocks in the back of my 31 s/w (160B). I don't run 16's so I can't comment on clearance, but here is some detail and observations: I have one leaf removed from the rear spring, so there is a definite 2" sag with no air in the shocks. Leveled with air, the car corners with much less side lean, as there is now an independent air spring on each side taking some of the load. I like being able to set the car absolutely level for any loading configuration.

Thanks guys . It rubs just enough to take the paint off the wheel well . I. Have

installed a panard bar on the rear to hopefully keep it from swaying when you go around a corner . Have not tested it yet . Will let you know if this solves the problem .
