Default Trunk lid re skin

I am trying to reskin my 28 roadster trunk lid. I only got the inner skin with the body so I never saw how the two were attached. My question. does the outer skin crimp on to the inner skin all around ? There is a small fold all around the lip on the new outer skin, does this get folded over? Thanks Rich.

Originally the top and bottom were crimped around the edges. In a jig to hold the correct shape they were flame welded (oxy act?) in 4 places to lock the shape.

The repro panels are shipped crimped, but not welded. You must (a 2 person job) install it in the car and get best shape while someone inside does the 4 tack welds to lock the shape.

I would assume you would need to do the same.

You need to install the latch when doing the fit up. The latch will dictate where the the outer skin needs to be placed. The latch must be touching the underside of the outer skin sheet metal. If not then when you install the handle you will cause a depression. When set up properly this will ensure the top is level with the body.

How do I know, I had to relocate the latch in the 30-31 rumble lid I got from Brookville. Not to hard a job, but important for proper fit. My latch did not touch the inside of the outer skin and the lid was too high at the front edge. When relocated to the proper position the front edge lined up with the body.
