Default Turn Signal Information

One of our club members has a after-market turn signal on the Tudor he recently purchased. It is not operating correctly, and we are trying to remedy the problem (we think it is wiring).

I am trying to find a schematic and instructions for the unit. The unit has a couple of patent numbers, and some information has been found. However the info thus far is for a 3-wire unit, and his unit is 5-wire. It is similar in shape as a Signal-Stat.

I also did a search on Fordbarn archieves, and have found numerous schematics and information, but none has matched the unit he has.

Following is the info from the unit:
All State 999
Sears-Roebuck & Co
Simpson-Sears Ltd.
SAE-Q
Pat. No. 3,114,015
Patented 1964
Canada No. 684,104
5-wire
Grn
Red
Yel
Blk (this may be Blu-hard to tell)
Gray

The Canadian patent information yielded more information than the U.S. patent info. But as mentioned above, both were 3-wire.

This is a 40-year old unit (or there-abouts), but I was wondering if any of the Fordbarners may have one, and may still have the instructions that came with it. We would appreciate a copy, and would be willing to compensate accordingly.

Thanks, Ron/IA

Ron, I quess if I were you, I think I would maybe get a new one which has instructions with it. I purchased a new unit from Bert's awhile back for around $20 and it had the instructions with it. Guess I am the lazy guy who goes for the easy way.

Bruce - The PDF opened, and the information is helpful. I now have a better idea of its operation and what wire goes where. Thanks.

400A-64 - Thanks for the info. I noticed the colors don't always control the same thing from type to type.

Fred K-OR - Yeah, that might be the easy way out. But the turn signal did work correctly, and we believe it still does. I feel something has occured in the wiring, and once we find that problem; the signal will work properly. So, at this point, we don't want to replace a good unit. Thanks.

Plus, it must have "patina". You can't buy that. JMO

A suggestion when you get ready to install your turn signals. Get a 4 wire bundle like is used for trailer wiring. Color coded and only have to buy about 12'. Can then wire to each turn signal and have a color code. Connect the wires from the turn signal controller through a multipin connector which has male and female parts so can be disconnected easily from the wiring to the turn signals. This connector can be purchased from Radio Shack. All this goes under the dash beside the kick panel. Also put in a fuse to the turn signals. JMHO.

A couple of articles on my club's website at http://www.CedarCreekAs.org in the TechTopics section.

One is a compilation of various wiring diagrams for various types of turn signal boxes, and the other is wiring diagrams during a 12v conversion
