(Inlet valve)
This valve better copes with higher fuel pressures and improves high-speed running and won't stick or dribble like the old viton-tipped needle and seat setups. The Grose Jet valve also won't corrode in modern fuel, something the original needle and seat units could be known to do.

The float raises with the increase amount of fuel in the bowl and applies pressure on the ball which inturns closes off the fuel flow in the carb.

Do they really work? Seem to remember having trouble with one but it was years ago.

Grose jet inlets do work but it's all for naught if you have dirty gas. Max knows.

Personally i think a old-school steel needle work just as well and are a little cheaper to buy. ken ct. When you can find them as there not in production any more.

Yes, those Grose Jet inlets work. They require less leverage to seal than the needle valve. I have used them at 6 lbs. of fuel pressure with NO LEAKAGE. However, as mentioned above, they can only work in a pristine envornment.

I have used the DOUBLE ball valves for years. Have had several bouts with dirty gas tanks and never had a problem with the valves useing a filter in the glass bowl. It is hard to open a small valve with pressure on it so they use 2 balls, a large and a small one. The large one holds the small one and as the float pressure reduces the ball releases the pressure against the small one. Uncle Max has new ones that are being produced now. I run 4 lbs gas pressure cold at start up. The pressure drops to 3 lbs as the fuel pump gets warm and even lower the hotter it gets, down to 1/2 lb when the gas starts to boil.
Charlie since you are set up with a pressure gauge and a test engine take a heat gun and useing your laser thermometer watch the effect of the fuel pressure as the pump get above 110 degrees. If you put some clear plastic tube between the pump and carb you could see what's happening with the fuel On your test stand you don't get the trapped heat in the rear of the engine. This trapped heat is differant on differant year cars. The problem come from the new gas and the trapped heat combination. G.M.

Those two little balls - one 3/32", the other 1/4" - constantly bumping into each other, actually meter the fuel and keep the fuel level more consistant than the old needle/seat inlet.

Will Grose -Jet valves work in a Holley 390 4 barel carb?

i agree with ken,the old steel needle works just fine if youf fuel is clean and preasure is correct.

I bought one from Baxter Ford a couple of years back. If you are looking for one might call them.

You can SEE and compare how the 2 types of valves work. You can put a pressure gauge in the line from the pump to the carb and watch the operation of the valves. The needle valve in most cases will fluctuate from 1 1/2 to 3. As the pump fills the carb bowl the pressure slowly raises to 3. As gas is used from the bowl the needle valve pops open after some has been used and the pressure drops to 1 1/2 when the valve is open and slowly rises to 3 as it fills and the valve closes.
With the ball valve as Uncle Max desribed the balls just sit there jiggling letting small portions of gas contantly flowing into the carb with the pressure gauge just slightly moving with less than 1/8 lb movment on the gauge.
You can also run a 97 with the top of the carb removed. With a needle valve as I said in most cases the gas will drop about an inch when the valve is open, this is when the pressure is 1 1/2 pounds or less. As the fuel rises in the bowl the needle is starting to close the pressure rises to 3 when the valve close and the cycle repeats.
With the top off and useing a double ball valve the bowl says almost filled and you can see NO movement of the fuel level. This makes more available fuel for a sudden fuel requirement which could possibly result in starvation with a low fuel bowl. I mentioned "almost" several times as I have seen one or two needle valve work with less variation but that is rare. G.M.
