![]() ![]() I posted this picture of Vince's 1930 Murray Town Sedan body a couple weeks ago to show how nice Ford Maroon looks. I had a couple requests for the color code. Brad Nelson did this beautiful paint job. He said it's PPG 50742. Brad painted this a few years ago, but thinks he may have added a little black. Brad said he tinted it until it matched the color chip in the Paint and Finish Guide. Remember the paint chips in the book are on a white page, so they always look much darker than they really are. You need to cut a square hole in a darker piece of paper and lay it over the color chip. |

That looks like the same color combo that I painted on my late 30 deluxe coupe a few years back.Ive always thought it is a very nice color.

Thank you for posting that. I intend painting my Victoria maroon and had imagined it being a lot darker, after looking at the paint chips in the MAFCA paint book. I will try the trick with the dark paper and see what difference it makes.

Tom, I agree with you-Ford Maroon is beautiful. I used it on my 26 Model T when I painted it in 1980. In the late Model T era it was known as either Royal Maroon or Windsor Maroon. I think there might have been variation between those two, but I wound up using the Ditzler code for lacquer that they had for Ford Maroon. My paint job is 32 years old now-the post-restoration period alone qualifies it in most states to be a "classic" or "vintage" car.

I called vince and he said the same thing, it was custom matched to the swatch. Nice guy by the way, we talked awhile about fine point cars.

![]() ![]() To show how much the paint chips on a white paper can fool you just look at the dark green on this walking beam steam engine I built and painted in 1976. The dark green you see is what I was sure I ordered from the paint chip. As soon as I opened the can of paint I took it right back and said this can't be what I ordered, it's way too light. I compared it to the chip and sure enough, it was what I ordered. I had to mix a pint of black to the pint of green to get this color, which is what I thought I ordered in the first place. BTW, the rough castings are Stuart from England and I bought them from Coles Power Models. |
