Default Good Day or Bad day, Got rego then blew my gearbox

Hi all.
On Monday I made a milestone, I managed to get my AR roadster registered, no small feat if you live in Victoria Australia. I decided I would go fro a drive, all was going well until i turned around to head home. Bang, no 1st gear very noisy second and jumping out of 3rd. I had to hold it in 3rd all the way home.
I drained the gearbox, lots of metal so out with the Box. It is dead, no bearing left between the input and output shaft, gear cluster missing a tooth, l ay shaft spinning in the box. What a mess. all the bearings in the box were new less than 50 miles ago. What caused it, I have a theory that being a multiplate clutch, there was no pilot bearing in the fly wheel, I have another flywheel which seems to have one, no pilot bearing would allow the input shat to wobble causing the roller bearing to fail in the input shaft, and all downhill from there.
Any thoughts?
Regards
Brendan
