Light switch orientation.

I am slowly getting getting the car ready for its roadworthy test.

I have difficulty in making my light switch function and stay in place at the end of the column without falling off.

Then it occured to me that it is not aligned correctly as the off position at the steering wheel is as three o'clock not six o'clock.

Looking from underneath at the end of the steering column I see that the locating indent for the switch on the column is at eight o'clock.

So maybe the end plate of the steering column is 90 degrees out.



Shoud I be rotating the end plate of the end of the steering box through 90 degrees?

Maybe then the bail will hold the end of the switch in place more firmly. I do not feel much detent action when I move the lever at the steering wheel.

I get the tail light coming off and on correctly at the various positions, but I only get one set of headlamp beams and no parking lights unless I manipulate the switch around.

Perhaps my wiper contact does not work too well. It does not look too bad, since I put a bit of profile on its contacts, which were quite flattened.



Thoughts please.

What I understand is that the switch and horn button should have the switch at 6 o'clock. If it is not, turn it and then put your switch on the end of the column back on and it should be where it is suppose to be. If I remember correctly, then turning the light switch to the left to about 8 o'clock you get the parking lights and turning it to the right you get high and low beams. (I may be backwards on the positions of parking and headlights)

It also looks like your "Indent" is not in the correct place. I think it should be down rather that at 8 or 9 o'clock. I would not think that RHD would make a difference. But I am sure someone here on the Barn may know more about this than I do. So hope they join in.

The part that has the indent is swedged into the small housing and is loose, you will need to turn it so it is the 6 o'clock position, you may be able to peen it to stay there, its best to remove it and have it brazed in position, then add some J B weld or other sealant to stop it leaking.

Thats exactly what I needed to know. Indent rotated, bail wire now clips properly onto the switch, and all the lighting now works as it should.
