Default Cylinder Head Studs

I have a set of new cylinder head studs which I was told are for a high compression head. They are unique in that they have a 3/16 inch hex socket in the top of each stud. Has anyone seen a set like these? If so, what is your opinion of them?

Thanks,

Paul

McMaster-Carr sells them, but I'm not sure about the sizes.

Arp makes something like that as well with the socket size. They would be overkill for the Model A though.

They are studs, identical to regular Model A studs in diameter, threads, and lengths. The only difference is the hex socket in the top.

If you do a search on studs vs bolts here I think you'll find not good. Has to do with the particular thread type in the block vs type of thread produced today. Also how much wear in the block threads, have they been chased incorrectly, etc. Aso not henry's original way. Try doing a search. Others will chime in I'm sure.

Likely ARP, I run them on my turbo Bonneville engine. They are grade 8 or better.

I would think that would every bit as good as any stud given the same grade. The hex socket would make it easier to install and if ever needed, remove. Not fine point, but they should do the job very well.

Thanks for the replies. I now feel comfortable about using them. The hex also makes it easier to adjust the height of the studs after the head is in place. I am using them with a Snyder 5.5 head from Bert's on an older rebuilt engine which has never been installed or run, and will torque them to 55 pounds
