Default Tried to buy oil today....

Went to Pep Boys today to buy some 10-30 oil for the 29 pick-up. There was a sale if you buy 5 quarts of Valvoline you get an oil filter free, and save 50 cents on each quart. So I go to the check out with out the filter and they charge me full price. I said it is on sale, but the guy said I only get the discount if I get the filter. I tried to explain that the truck has no filter, but he did not care. I told him I would just throw away the filter if I had to take it, but he did not care. So I went to the shelf and grabbed the first filter I could reach and brought it back to the register. I got my discount and when I got outside, dropped it in the garbage can. I just don't get it.

Next time make sure you get a filter for your modern. With the amount of motors I rebuild, I have enough filters to change the oil in the mustang till 2025 and the nitro till 2015. They won't let me get the one for my coal burner, too big.

I do as James does. I have a few 50s era Fords and the filters come in handy. I may check into buying bulk oil wholesale next time I need oil tho.

Yeah, you should have got one you could use or one some friend could have used. Or take it back into the store and put it back on the shelf. Or asked to speak to the manager. No sense in just throwing it away.

The clerk was doing his job and following orders, he probably thought he might get fired if he messed up the inventory count in the computer.

Rather than waste an otherwise good filter, why not get one for your modern, or some other common car? You could have found one for a Ford F150 and placed it on the hood of his/her truck as a nice gesture. Even if you picked the wrong one for his engine/tranny/color combo, it's still nice.

And you did get your oil discount, right? Are we complaining or bragging here?

That was the deal. The promotions come down from the region or further up to do these deals. Instead of getting angry you should have done like others said and just got a filter you could use. I don't see the problem here.

This reminds me of going to McDonalds and ordering a meal without buying the drink. I've gone in to buy food and thought they were messing with me when they told me the price for a meal without the drink. In order to have the advertised price you had to purchase the drink. I had one person that really didn't understand all this tell me they couldn't sell me a meal unless I purchased the drink. So I learned to not bring my coffee from home in the morning or take theirs and pour it out.

I must have 10 or 12 extra filters now, all I wanted was the oil. I guess I will just take them to Hershey and sell them.
