Default Bearing shims rear end

I know there are shims for under the carrier bearings, are there shims for under the bearing cups?

Originally there were no shims there. The only reason for shims is to achieve proper pre-load on the bearings or to move the ring gear towards or away from the pinion. Shims are not often required, I cut my own if needed, they are not rocket science and can be put under either the bearing or the race.

You should not need the shims unless there is wear.

With the bearings off you can tell if you have a problem. Originally the surfaces that the bearing are pressed onto would have machining marks. The ones where the bearings seized and rotated on the housing/ carrier surface will be polished smooth. It will be shiny and it is obvious. If you do not have any signs of wear and you can not get the rear tight enough to lock up with no or minimal banjo shims then I would question the axle/ banjo housing as having serious issues.

You need to also check the mating surfaces on the axle and banjo housings. Run a flat file around the edges and look for nicks or warpage. This will be obvious with light pressure on the file. You not removing any material except for high spots. Same goes for the carrier housing halves.

You also need to work clean. A small piece of dirt on the carrier halves or axle housings can cause alignment issues.

If you have signs of the bearings moving, you then have to figure out if they are tight enough to hold the bearing and keep it properly located. Rear parts are not very expensive so better parts may be a better option.

I also had to cut my own as Jim said, to fit under the outer race. I was using parts from 3 rear ends to repair a 28 torn up Roadster rearend.

Like so often on the forum, Dave doesn't get the info he asked for but instead other stuff. I'm not saying it isn't good or correct. The only place I know that sells shims for the axle housing cups is Bert's (or as I interpret their catalog).
