Question Open Car Windshield ?

On the top of a 28/29 open car winfshield there are 4 screws that hold the frame together. What is the size, thread, and length of the screws?

Also, on the windshield frame pivots there are the pivot studs, cone shaped nuts, cones, and friction washers. What is the correct order of assembly.

Pictures are great.

Thanks,
Jon

The 4 screws are 10-24 domed head countersunk screws.

Sure they are not 10-32? They are on my 29 original windshield frame. They are about 1/4 inch long of thread. I had to chuck the heads up in a lathe to get the width correct though on the windshield I just put together. I compared it to the 28 windshield I also have. I don't see the screws listed in any catalog either.

Order is pivet studs, cone, cone shaped nuts

The washers I have a small plain SS, two for each side.

Note that the repro cone shaped nuts are bigger than the originals. I had to use the repro studs as my originals were bent/stripped.

I had to buy the screws on ebay since the local hardware store no longer carries slotted screws.

Mr. Texas,
Thank you. I went the hardware store yesterday with the frame and found 2 different sizes that seemed to fit. One was 10-24 I believe. I don't remember what the other was. Both seemed a little loose and the heads were to large. Last night after searching all my catalogs I found that MAC's offers a set of 4 for like .95 cents. They do specify the size though.
As far as the pivot studs go, I have an original windshield frame I bought at Hershey about 5 years ago. It has the studs, cones, and nuts. The way they were on just didn't look right and I couldn't find any documentation. Does the domed side of the nut go in or out?
Thanks again,
Jon

Domed side goes in. I left on a repro cone nut on top to show the difference from the original I used. Don't know if it matters as it is covered up and mine isn't together yet. Caution the cones have front and back sides but I don't remember the difference.

I see that in Macs, but the screws on my 28 are oval headed not flat countersunk as pictured in Macs. I don't know which is right!

Mr.Texas,
Thanks for the picture. Mine looks like yours except for the pretty paint. I would guess nuts on mine are original, but i don't have anything to compare.
There is a front and back to the cones? I don't see any difference.
I didn't see a picture in Mac's catalog. Only a typed listing.
Thanks again,
Jon
