Default A Message to all the Forum

I just want to take a moment to comment on this Forum. First of all, it seems as though the answer is always there... some very well-informed and skilled folks out there who do their best to help without being critical or judgmental. The contributors are genuinely interested in the Model A Ford and it's preservation. When there is illness or loss, there is compassion. When I am in error with a comment, (which seems to be getting more routine with age), I am kindly corrected with a private message.

There exists another site that I have followed for some time, that has morphed into a few bullies, if you will, running the message board, using it to promote their own products or verbally slamming others, sometime stooping to name-calling and other such childish behavior. Once in a while something good will pop up, but it is becoming a rarity.

Once again, thank you to the management of this site and all the good people who contribute to it. This truly is a community of good folks.

Richard Tatoyan (...my name added, thanks to Mr. White)

My sentiments, exactly.

The craftsmanship enunciated daily on this site tells us something about the strength of our culture: our strength is in the commitment of individuals to excellance and the unselfish-sharing of their experience.

You hit the nail right on the head there. It is the best site there is to ask for advice and you will get a reply right a way and it's the best advice u can get and if some one is wrong u will get feed back on it. The best site I've been on for a long time plus the H.A.M.B is a good site also both sites the best. Are the best. reggiedog

Yes!

I'm a member of a few other (non-Model A) forums, and I was shocked at the politeness and genuine concern here. Kudos to you all!!!

It seems raw meanness is becoming fashionable in the internet. Mods permit it to "spice up" the place. But it can become a slaughterhouse.

But there is one forum I belong to that tries to prevent this type of behavior. One method they found was to force members to use their real names on the signature. I guess people still value their name enough to be civil. That's why my name is in the signature. It's a good habit.

This is a little civilized corner of the internet! We like it here.. Please wipe your feet before you come in and have a seat between the pickle-barrel and the potbellied stove.. There is always something happening here, even if it is just 'shooting the bull'

Even if we get a little ruffled, it seems that most here are live-and-let-live types and always move past the scuffles and maintain their manners.. Seems to be a truly lost art..

I have to agree. The language, politeness and caring of all on this site is a rarity in this day and age of the me firsts. I also visit the other site, but on the chat mostly although that has tapered off as of late. This is a great site for the hobbie where you do not feel like the tin can being kicked around. Rod

Hi All:

I'm a frequent reviewer but don't often have time to actively participate (still too busy at work, but will retire in not to distant future).

Anyway, I take this opportunity to say I agree with all the sentiments expressed above.

You are all "scholars and gentlemen," and I very much enjoy reading all your comments.

What else would one expect? If someone here where to make me angry, before I could type a response, I would forget why. My favorite site because I can just be me.

All the comments above I agree with. I have had a lot of help over the last couple of years trying to work on my Model A's. Thank you all for the great help.

One of the things I appreciate is the fact that when asking a question that may not have a "yes or no" answer a person gets the feelings and thoughts of a number of people. This gives a person the ability to do various things to come up with a solution to a Model A problem.

Again thank you all for the help!

I think too we should thank Ryan. He has developed a fair set of rules for conduct here without being heavy-handed or intrusive, and that has set the standards for civility.

Yes, this is one of the most friendly message boards.

I have found that there are two many reasons that message boards get ugly. The first is off topic postings. Once the topic changes to something that is not the focus of the message board heated arguments can develop. The second reason is postings that refer to others and not the topic of the posting. I try to never post anything like "Your an idiot", "You are Wrong" or even "I dissagree with you". Those phrases are personal and can lead to more personal attacks. I would use the phrase "In my opinion" or "My experiences suggest" or "I believe".

I agree ! There is a willingness to help otherwise total strangers. A barner noticed in my posted pics that my "new" TS was missing a window riser. He contacted me to say he had one with the same patina as the rest of my interior and he would gladly give it to me at Hershey. I contacted him back and said I had just put that item on my Hershey list and that if I wasn't at my space, he could leave it on my runningboard. Well Wednesday after my morning shopping, I returned to find the riser and a lock handle on my runningboard ! That spirit is a compliment to the Barn, the people who frequent it and a little bit of Hershey Magic. That man....was Don Turley. Thanks, Don

It's called PRIDE and RESPECT. It was accepted as Normal "back in the day" as they say. A little of each can go a long way. It seems to have found a home here on this Forum.

Way to Go Barners.................................:roll eyes:

I agree!!! I used to frequent the other board and learned a lot there but when two posters in particular ganged up on me and caused a ruckus with the whole board taking sides I just left never to return as a regular poster. I came here and was welcomed by Shelley and the regulars and have never left and don't want to even though I have had some disagreements nothing major. Those two posters on the other board---- well they got into a fight with each other recently about the argument with me that happened 4 years ago and one left just a month ago. The other is a very political poster and has been banned from here for life and is running others off Dale's board one at a time. Moderators that keep civility among posters is the key and Dale doesn't do that and tries to watch his board by himself. I see it with a short lifespan from here and am sad for those who go there. The amount of posts there per week does not rival this board by the hour.
