Has anyone ever attempted to restore the fins and tubes alone on an original Model A/AA Ford Radiator?
Has anyone restored a complete radiator themselves? That is removing all the fins and tubes, and replacing those that have been damaged over the years with good original fins and tubes to bring back the original look of the core. If so, what is the process you did and problems you faced in doing so? Yes I know...just get a new core and be done with it. Thanks. Pluck |

To answer your question specifically, I have not simply because I have been too lazy to see the need but we are restoring a 1905 Cadillac that someone hand-fabricated a radiator for. I studied it when it first arrived and believe I could do it also now that I see what they did. I think if you took an old Model A radiator and dissected it, you would probably same the same thing. |

Steve or Brent,
I think the tubes are sweated to the fins? I was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club some 45 years ago, watched an " old guy " about 55 make a brass radiator core for his 1915 or earlier T. What a work-out! I believe he soldered each tube to each fin, starting at the bottom header and working to the top. Came out NEAT. |
