Default A simple brake shoe question.

I am confused (again). When putting my brake shoe stuff together after getting new parts, rollers, adjustment shafts, pins, etc., which way do the pins get inserted in the adjustment shafts. I know the pins in the rollers have to have the "heads" towards the backing plate but which way do the pins go in the adjustment shafts. In looking at Andrews book and some of the parts catalogs, it looks like the "heads" on the adjustment shafts go the same way as the ones in the rollers. But in looking at some of the older books (Clymer, etc.) they show the pins in the adjustment shafts with the "heads" toward the brake drum. That is the simple question-which way is correct or does it make any difference?

Thanks for helping this confused guy again.

I don't see how it can make any difference on the top there.

Fred,

As Jim mentioned, there's not much to "catch" on at the adjusting-pin end of the shoe...

I think I installed mine with all cotter pins facing-out, ( roller pins, adjustment shoe pins ), just so it looked "neat", and perhaps will help me avoid any confusion when I go back in there months or years down the road...

Now, the e-brake band is another story - the pins MUST face a certain way ( don't remember which, so I won't offer a guess)

Good luck !

Frank, as I recall, the rear break assembly is because of clearance issues. The pins will nick the back of the drum if put in backwards.

Thanks guys. I think I have some pictures of the e-brake setup so I can get that correct.

BTW Peter, I like the colors of your car.
