ALL: NOT trying to start another arguement about "A" brakes, but here is MY experience: 1931 Model A Slantwindow, and the brakes needed replacing; as well, one of the brake rods was bent. I purchased the Deluxe set of "Floaters" from Flathead Ted, and my good friend, Allen Danner, installed them, along with cast iron drums and brand new shoes plus rods all around. The difference is absolutely incredible! NOW, with very little effort, you can lock and slide all four tires. I would compare the braking to a power unit, because of the greatly reduced pressure required to engage the brakes. I would STRONGLY recommend the floaters - The feeling of safety is invaluable!!

Thanks Marcus. Sounds like a great way to go.
I am in the process of doing the same thing as you did for my coupe. The only difference is that I did not go for the Floaters (maybe I should have) and new brake rods (mine looked good). The rest of the stuff I replaced with new items-cast iron drims, rollers, wedges, etc. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope I will have reasonable success with what I have done. Thanks for the comments about your process.

I've heard the same thing about Ted's floaters from the guy who had installed hydraulics in mine back when he owned it. He said that he much preferred Ted's to the hydraulics. I acquired my first A back in 1962 and it had mechanicals. The
juice brakes didn't seem that much better to me. I guess my next stop will be Ted's. Jack

I will say that if you are not willing to keep up on shoe adjustments you will wear out one half the shoe and Teds set up should allow for even wear.
