Default Explanation of Symbols in Thread List

Where are the explanation of symbols found which are in the left hand column onthe list of threads? I also would like to know why some threads are written in BOLD lettering while others are normal lettering? I thought that if a thread was started today or something was added to a thread today it would be in BOLD lettering until I read it, but this does not happen. There are a numerous number of these today alone that is not in BOLD lettering.
Thanks for your time

there is a key at the very bottom of the forum list.

My assumption for bold lettering is the same as yours in that they are ones you have not looked at.

Not quite. The bold topics are those where new content has been added (either a new topic all together or a new response on an old topic) since the last time you visited the forum.
