That sounds like it would be a good match. A quart of engine green would do a few engines and transmissions.

I used the same colors but in equal amounts.

Thanks Joe, I believe this was discussed 5+ years ago. I think the consensus was that it didn't match the Paint & Refinish chip color, but it was an acceptable color by the Driver level crowd who just wanted something that would be close.

Over the years I have had many many NOS Model "A" parts that had various shades of engine green. I heard a story that at the Rouge where engines were made, left over paints of various colors were dumped into the green paint vats used to coat the engine, engine covers, flywheel housing, transmission & water pump.

I think that this is the most compelling point I’ve heard regarding the contention that the engine green was an ad-hoc mixture of body colors.

Nice fairy tales.....
After over 50 years of mixing automotive paints, I can tell you if you pooled all of them together, the result is a nice shade of dark sh_t brown. M-979 Green Motor Block PYROXYLIN 09-09-29 M-979-B Motor Block PYROXYLIN Pyroxylin is an early form of fast drying lacquer paint, perfect for production work. Look at any era factory photo of the engine, the block & head only having a slight sheen compared to other engine parts that were dipped in enamel, baked resulting in a high gloss. I doubt Ford cared what these parts looked like after 5 years, let alone 90 ! |
