Default Transmission main shaft

I have a transmission apart at the moment. The vehicle it was out of (1929 Canadian assembled) was originally a multi disc clutch vehicle which has since been replaced with a single plate clutch.

The main transmission shaft did NOT have a spacer ring on it when it came apart. it does have a lip/flange on it at the bearing race end of the main shaft.

What is correct? should it have a spacer or not. Does anyone have a picture of the difference between shafts?

The early shafts had a built-in spacer. The later had a removeable spacer much like a key ring. The later should be replaced at overhaul as it will be worn flat on the front side. Do not use a later on top of an early'
