Default What Now?

Adventures with old cars.
Put in a new transmission.
Fixed the clamshell on the u joint.
Took care of various ignition issues.
Went for a ride, about 50 miles both ways.
Really hot day at least 90 degrees.
No issues on the way out.
Car ran decent no overheating issues.
A bit warmer on the way back,95 degrees.
Filled tank with premium. No hot start issues.
After about 30 miles car still ran well, but had a slight Back Fire a few times but still ran well.
Considering how hot it was both outside and inside the car.

The only issue so far is that I am almost as old as the car. 1940 Ford Tudor Deluxe.

Happy Motoring

Roger

can't help with the age issue...wish i could.

but a bit of backfiring is often caused by unburnt fuel entering the exhaust after the combustion stroke. i would probably take a good look at the plugs and if they show signs of running rich i would lean out the mixture bit. i might even lean out the mixture if they didn't show signs of running rich. as plug assessment is not an exact science.

Just a thought on the wires, are they the solid "copper" core wires or the carbon core wires? As many have said the carbon core wires don't play well with the stock distributor.
