![]() Canton leaders have made it clear that the town’s history is critically important to its future, and in that spirit, its police department has recovered a piece of the past — a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe that once served as a police cruiser in town. |

Chuck, there is a business in Marshall, NC that might be able to repair that, Blue Ridge Classic Resurrections. That shouldn’t be too far from Canton, NC. I follow their work on Instagram some.

They have already gone under water by paying $2500 for this. About five times or more the true value.

The sad reality is that Kube is 100% correct. A six cylinder 47 Ford sedan restoration will cost many times what purchasing a decent running example would cost. I love the idea of saving history. I question the reality of spending tax payer money to bring that $400 parts car back to life.

I've owned 11 46-48 Fords since 1973. Fell in love with them at an early age. My observation is they have dropped in value at least 25% in the last five years if not more. I've spent $4,500 on parts for our 1946 Fordor and in this area I think it would struggle to bring $7,500. The only upside is that makes them an affordable entry level car. Unless it's a very desirable body style and you can do a lot of the work yourself the basket cases don't make economic sense in my opinion. |

Thanks for the interesting comments. I'm sure this is strictly an attempt to preserve some history. But I'm also sure it won't get too far along. Canton has REALLY seen some hard times lately, and it's financial situation is poor. It lost its primary industry, a huge paper mill, four years ago. It is regularly flooded, most recently by 'Helene' last fall. Its sewage facility was run by the paper mill at a discount for its citizens, who must now pay the out-sized bill themselves. So now it must try to recover, and 'reinvent' itself as something new. It's in a beautiful valley, with easy access to I-40, so we will see what happens....
