U-joint Housing Bolt Orientation

In reviewing the archives here I see photos with the bolts oriented with the bolt heads either on the transmission side or the torque tube side of the clam shells.

Bratton's catalogue states that the "top bolt has the castle nut facing the rear and the others have the castle nut facing the front of the car", but the reference to "facing" seems confusing to me. What is correct?
