Default Shorter Lighter for a 40?

In Kube’s book, “its Ford for 40”, he mentioned radio equipped 40’s had a shorter lighter. Does anyone know who sells those? Third Generation and Carpenter have lighters but they do not look short enough to fit.

Never mind, I found Kube’s response from 2015 . . . not reproduced! Head to EBay. I may try to cut it down.

Correct not reproduced but they can still be found. They are shorter because the electrical pig tail is at right angles to the back of the socket. Typically the other year sockets have the wire extending straight out from the end of the socket. The main body of the socket is about same length as other years. You can see one below in the foreground of the photo.

Has anyone found a shorter receptacle from another car model that accepts the 40 element? Lots of cheap replacements on line but can only be 1 1/8” “deep”. I just want to “fill the hole”, I don’t care if it works.

Make one. Buy a repo socket and cut it down to size and do the same with the lighter element. Walmart sells an inexpensive socket and element.
