Hi
Just looking to purchase a new clutch disc for my 34 fordor, which has a 40 flathead going in so it is a 9 inch. Is there much difference from one over the other in brand, finish, etc., or will just about any on the market do the trick ? Thanks |

The market is likely limited to no more than one or two sources on these as far as manufacturing is concerned. It's a niche market so the market is not a big one. The later 9N, 2N, & 8N tractors use them so there are still a lot of them in common use. The thing to look out for is the way the torque springs are mounted in the disc. Some are well made and some have windows that are a little too open and those tend to have spring problems. There are other threads on these if a person can do a search. Some have photos.

Perfect thanks for the information, I will do a search, rather end up with the right one the first time if possible.
Thanks |

Speedway motors or Dennis Carpenter Ford parts are both good sources.

There's a thread on here about approved vendors. I tried to find it, but with no luck. Maybe someone knows where it is.

I’ve bought transmission parts from Mac VanPelt and have always been happy. But when you buy his transmission rebuild instruction book, you will be even happier.

I bought a clutch disk from Thirdgen a while ago, and it was surprisingly sloppy on the splines of the input shaft. I tried it on 2-3 other shafts I had and it wobbled maybe 3/4” or more at the outer edge of the disk. I called Michael and he said he had two suppliers and he sent me one from his other supplier. It fit a lot better, and he told me to pitch the other. So whatever you end up with, try it on your input shaft see how it fits. I don’t know that there’s a spec for looseness, but I’d never seen one with that much slop.
Now that the car is together and running, it’s the nicest clutch I’ve ever had on an old Ford. |
