30 coupe has been sitting for 25 years. Popout was bad, put on a test tank and cleaned the points. Fired right up.
Mouse nest blew out the exhaust 5 feet! Usually it's a wasp nest. Clutch was stuck, got the rpms down as low as possible, caught it just right and it went into 1rst gear. In just a few feet the clutch broke free. |

Was the mouse surprised? Any baby mice?

Stored under a local barn while my house was being built, it was recovered and I noticed the engine was now "frozen." Disassembly found the mouse had crawled UP the exhaust pipe, somehow avoided the baffles within, and reached the exhaust valve on No.4 cylinder - which fortunate for the mouse (but unfortunate for me) was open. So he/she went in. And made a home which included sanitary (sic) facilities. I elected to have the engine rebored/refitted by a local provider. Dern small those mice. Joe K

How come no one here ever finds anything like that, especially me. Envious!

I'm very careful cleaning up the droppings in cars, no nest found inside of this one.
Car is blue. |

I've found model A's and V8's like this. Most of the time the owners won't sell. Rarely they do. I drive early Ford's so often in my community, folks tend to let me know where cars are. Most of the time they aren't Fords but it's still fun to talk to folks about vintage automobiles.

Wick,
The machines can store well. We did a complete frame-off in 1965 of the 1930 Coupe that you see here. It had been a daily driver from 1965 to the early 80s. For a number of reasons it remained unattended in our garage for over 20 years. Tires and tubes did not do too well in the dry desert air where we lived at the time. Gasoline had thoroughly evaporated. In about 2005, I put a couple of gallons in the tank. Drained the radiator and filled it with well water. New tires and tubes. New battery. Crossed my fingers. Executed the start sequence. In the years since that re-birth we have done a lot restoration. Including a complete interior and top. Drive every Sunday to breakfast and then a bit of cruise around Altadena, Ca. A lot of fun remains. Tim Hammond |
