Default Transmission case

Howdy!

Does the 48 Ford car transmission case interchange with the 51 truck transmission? Got a very nice case from a 48 car but not sure I can use it in a truck.

Thanks in advance

Assuming the truck is a side shift, yes.

I thought the "78 case" was a topshift? The classic '39 Ford tranny everybody was always looking for.

Im getting that he has a truck that needs new gears. My mistake, thanks Tim, not both 78 cases, but interchangeable gear sets using the truck main shaft, not the case itself. perhaps some day the OP will return to clarify!

Yes. The OP's post/question is kind of vague.

Yes, I'm talking abou the case only, and it's side loaded. I took all measures I could and it seems to be the same but you know, I might be missing somenting!

Sorry if I couldn't make myself clearer, please let me try again:
I have two distinct cases, one from a 48 car and one from a 51 truck, both side loaded. I'd like to use the 51 case in the 48 car, since it's in a better shape, but ONLY THE CASE/COVER. Like mentioned before, I measured and compared everything and it seems to be the same or very much closer. I would like to hear the pros before to attempt to assemble it.

Thanks a lot again.

They can be interchangeable. The side cover on the car transmission will be the 01A-7222. The cover on the pickup truck transmission will have the 8M-7222 casting. They are also interchangeable. The car case will have the serial number stamped into the flat area just above the inspection window. Ford stopped putting the serial number on the cases after 1948 so that area will have no numbers stamped on.
