Hi All,
Question on 1939 Ford Deluxe headlight rings vs 1940 ford headlight rings. I have a 1939 deluxe coupe with 1940 headlight rings on it. I would like to put some 1939 deluxe headlight rings on. Is there a difference in 1939 deluxe /1940 headlight buckets? thanks jeff |

The 1939 and 1940 headlight buckets have different part numbers so there must be a difference. Plus the 1940 headlights are seal beam.

Yes there is a difference. The '40 had sealed beam headlights and the 39 still used the bulb type lights. Someone may have converted the lights or you have an early kit sold by auto parts stores to convert to sealed beams

Hello TJ
I have a pair of new 39 deluxe headlight buckets from Bob Drake that I do not need. I will sell them for $50.00 and throw in a good pair of rims. You will only still need lenses. Shipping will be whatever it costs. If you are interested contact me at [email protected]. Phil Spaid Fallbrook California |

Definitely different. I put 39 lights on my 40 (sorry!) and had to change everything. The 40 buckets are way shallower and have a different ring. Everything about them is different except for the holes they mount into on the fender.

I was thinking 1940 had parking lights above the headlights in the same ring? Nevermind, reread post, question in the buckets

What I am really trying to find out is
Will 1939 deluxe headlight rings fit 1940 buckets. I do not know what buckets I have in the car. The car is a 1939 deluxe coupe but has 1940 headlight rings. I want to go back to stock 1939 deluxe rings. jeff |

NO! 1939 Deluxe headlight rims do not fit 1940 Buckets, or 1940 rims fit 1939 deluxe buckets. 1939 Deluxe headlight assemblies (rims, buckets, lens, et al) can be installed in 1940 fenders with minor modifications to the fender, as can 1940 headlight assemblies into 1939 fenders. |
